The Potting Shed was set up 18 years ago by Julia Wyld. At that time, Julia was involved in setting up and running the Lifeboat Fair in Bath and noticed the lack on the fair circuit of a practical gardening stall, so with her interest and love of gardening she gave it a go! Julia met the owners of DARLAC Garden Tools at the West Country Show and was impressed by the quality of their products at very reasonable prices. The tools are great to work with and new lines are still being regularly introduced today. The Showa gloves, especially the very popular Floreo 'thin' range, Flexitie, and Bosmere 'Tidy-up' products were great additions to the Potting Shed range.
The Potting Shed has exhibited at Garden Shows and Charity Fairs since that time helping to raise funds for many national and local charities and very worthy causes, including the RNLI, British Red Cross, Wiltshire and Thames Valley Air Ambulance, Queen Elizabeth Foundation, Macmillan, NSPCC, St Catherine's Hospice, Wiltshire Bobby Van Trust, and ABF The Soldiers' Charity. Julia ran the business for approximately 12 years before her cousin Roger Basset took up the reigns and continued the very successful business with his wife Mel until 2019 when they retired. The Potting Shed thankfully lives on, now run by Alastair and Hazel Gravenstede with the same lovely products and a few new ones too. Roger and Alastair were business associates for many years and continue to be close friends and Roger is always ready to give support and advice.
We have been involved with The Potting Shed for nearly three years, initially as well as Roger & Mel (at separate events) and on their recent retirement are continuing at the charity events where 'The Potting Shed' has become so well known. 2020 has been an extremely difficult year due to Covid 19 with all Spring and Summer events cancelled and many Autumn events also succumbing to the virus. However, many of these fairs are becoming an online virtual event, with 10% of the sales going to the event's charity. We have every hope that next year the fundraising events will resume but in the meantime we will do all that we can to help these charities. We are members of the Charity Fair Association whose motto is "shop to give".
We would love to hear from you with any questions regarding our tools. We can email specific images and information to you and are happy to send products by mail order within 24-48 hours where possible. Alternatively we are happy for you to collect from Loxwood or we can deliver locally.
